To allow for the installation of sargassum barriers, boaters must move their boats
The Collectivité will install two sargassum barriers in Cul de Sac Bay to intercept and divert the seaweed. While the barriers are being installed, anchoring and water sports are prohibited along their path. Boaters are asked to move their vessels to allow for the installation of the barriers.
The first barrier, 180 meters long, will be installed in the northern part of the bay, and the second, 520 meters long, on the southwestern shore. The barriers are arranged in a zigzag pattern and separated by a channel designed to allow boats to pass through.
Swimming and water activities conducted from the shore using beach equipment and unregistered watercraft are prohibited within the designated area. This prohibition applies to all vessels as well as to any person engaging in water sports, scuba diving, or fishing within the designated areas, the COM states.
A channel has been established in the deepest part of the area to ensure passage for sailboats and vessels with limited draft, and it remains open to navigation. Access to the Cul de Sac pier and the connection to Pinel Islet are maintained.
Starting Monday, September 11, any violation will result in legal action against the offenders.
