Local Police: Two stations inaugurated but still closed in Grand-Case and Quartier d’Orléans
Presented as a way to strengthen the local police presence in Grand-Case and Quartier d'Orléans, the two new territorial police stations inaugurated in 2025 are still not open to the public.
The first, located on Rue des Écoles in Grand-Case, was inaugurated a year ago, in June. At the time, the president of the Collectivité, Louis Mussington, hailed it as “an important step” toward enhancing public safety and peace. This outpost was intended to increase police presence between Morne Valois and Cul-de-Sac, facilitate police responses, and strengthen ties with residents.
A few months later, in November, a second outpost was inaugurated in Quartier d’Orléans, near the Roche Gravée middle school in Moho, with the same goals: to bring services closer to the public and improve territorial coverage. A third location had also been announced in Sandy Ground.
However, several months after these official inaugurations, both facilities remain closed. In Grand-Case, there is no exterior sign indicating the building’s purpose.
Operating under the authority of the Collectivité, the territorial police are responsible, in particular, for prevention, monitoring public spaces, enforcing territorial ordinances, regulating traffic and parking, and combating incivility and illegal dumping.
In this context, the prolonged closure of these two new stations raises questions. When contacted, the territorial police did not specify the reasons for this delay. For its part, the Collectivité cites a shortage of personnel. The Marigot station, however, is open as usual.
