La Poste Strike: Progress in negotiations, but the strike continues
The strike continues at La Poste in Saint Martin. Since Tuesday, October 6, about ten employees have been on strike as part of an indefinite strike notice issued by FO.COM, CGT-FAPT, and SUD PTT GWA. The unions are protesting staffing shortages and deteriorating working conditions. They are demanding sufficient staff to allow for the opening of branch offices—particularly the one in Galisbay—and to ensure postal service for the public.
Negotiations between the unions and La Poste management have yielded several advances, though they have not yet resulted in a final agreement.
According to union representative Laurent Lorient, negotiations with La Poste management have secured the return of an employee to Saint-Martin, scheduled for January, and the immediate hiring of an employee on a fixed-term contract to compensate for his absence. An internal promotion for an employee is also among the announced advances.
The main sticking point now concerns payroll deductions related to the seven-day strike. While a compromise involving four days of deductions was discussed, the union is requesting that the deductions be spread out at a rate of one day per month to avoid an excessively large deduction from a single paycheck. According to the union representative, management has not accepted this proposal.
The strike continues pending a new response from management.
