Second Annual Lagoonies Regatta Will Rock The Dock June 25th
Island residents and tourists of all ages are invited for a celebration of competitive sailboat racing, live music and fun at the second annual Lagoonies Regatta on Saturday, June 25, hosted by Lagoonies Bistro-Bar. The Regatta will feature a full day of events from morning to night. The racing will be held from 9am to 5pm in Simpson Bay Lagoon. The 6-7pm awards ceremony, followed by the Regatta's free live concert with Guadeloupean gwo ka band Ti Fèy La Ka Soné headlining, will both be held at Lagoonies. “We're excited to announce the second edition of this Regatta! We hope everyone will come out to enjoy a great day of sailing and a fun night of fantastic live music,” said Olivia Roudon, director of Lagoonies Bistro-Bar.
Amazing sailing is on deck at the event, with all slots already booked by well-known teams, including a youth team from Kids at Sea. The teams will sail identical Sunfast 20′ mini-yachts used by the Caribbean’s leading championship sailors throughout the year, provided by event partner Lagoon Sailboat Rental. Youth will also be competing in a second category of RS Vision sailboats. All racing events will take place next to the causeway bridge in Simpson Bay Lagoon.
Drink specials will be offered to Regatta spectators all day, and there will be Regatta specials on the lunch menu. Reservations are required for dinner, and can be made by phone at +590 690 660676, by email atbistrolagoonies@gmail.com, or by Facebook message. The Regatta's special music event will begin at 8pm, after the Regatta awards ceremony, and will feature a live concert from the gwo ka dance and percussion group Ti Fèy La Ka Soné, from Guadeloupe.
“You don't have to sail to come party!” explained Roudon. “Ti Fèy La Ka Soné are gonna rock the dock–so get ready to dance!”
