Request to suspend Francesco Corallo’s detention rejected

The request by Francesco Corallo’s lawyers to suspend his detention has been rejected. That the Joint Court of Justice decided today.

Francesco Corallo was arrested and detained at the request of the Italian authorities on December 13, 2016 in St. Maarten. He is suspected of tax evasion and money laundering. Since then, he has been in detention pending his extradition.

The arrest of Francesco Corallo is the result of an international collaboration between Italy, St. Maarten, French St. Martin and the Netherlands. This fits into the joint, intensive approach to combat cross-border corruption and fraud. In the investigation, among other things bank accounts and a large number of goods.
