Galisbay / La Savane connection: a new step completed

The project management for the Galisbay / La Savane connection has been granted by the Collectivité.

On December 13, 2016, the executive board approved granting the project management contract for the Galisbay / La Savane connection to the company SEGIC Engineering. The contract will last for thirty-six months, and it totals to €601,150; however, this does not include the costs of construction of the connection.

Six companies sent their applications following the contract notice published in the summer of 2016 and SEGIC Engineering was selected by the tenders committee, whose opinion was consulted by elected officials. Based in the Paris area, the company specializes in four areas: information systems, road equipment, water and environment, and urban development.

These works are part of the roads master plan adopted by the Collectivité in 2015. "It should double the connection between Marigot and la Savane to address the numerous and recurring traffic problems on this section of the RN7, the most densely-trafficked of the territory," the plan indicates. "It should particularly serve the Galisbay commercial port, a generator of truck traffic. It will also improve the tourist appeal of the west coast by creating a coastal route and improving access to sites which are currently limited."

Three primary constraints were identified: Bienvenue Hill / the outflow of Guichard Pond / the landscaping needed due to the layout of the coastal and tourist area. Not to mention the fact that the Collectivité does not yet own all the necessary property.

Two phases of work have been planned. The first is between Friar’s Bay and Grand Case. "It is the simplest in terms of infrastructure - except for the artwork on the outflow of Guichard Pond - due to the relatively flat geometry of the terrain. Its completion will also double a fairly large section of the RN7 (Grand Case - Cripple Gate)." The second phase will be the more geometrically difficult section between Friar’s Bay and Galisbay, the goal of which would be to ensure access to the Galisbay commercial port. It involves heavier and more complicated work.

The Collectivité has estimated the cost of the primary connection at €17.5 million and that of the secondary routes at €10.1 million (€6.8M for Anse des Pères/Gabisbay and €3.3M for Galisbay/RN7 Morne Valois).

No calendar for the works has yet been released.
