Sint Maarten : Man shot in Festival Village

The Police Detective Department is presently investigating a shooting which took place on Labor Day, May 1st 2016 on the premises of the Festival Village located on the Soualiga Boulevard. The incident took place at approximately 08.15 p.m. This is when a fight had broken out between the victim and a group of men. The victim was trying to flee form his attackers by running through the village. During the confrontation with these men the victim was shot in one of his legs, by one of these men causing him to fall to the ground.

After the victim was shot the suspects all fled the scene. The police officers that were on duty in the village ran to the scene to investigate what had happened. The victim who was bleeding from a wound to one of his legs was treated on the scene by paramedics and then transported to the Sint Maarten Medical Center for further treatment. The area was immediately closed off and persons asked to clear the area.

The reason the fight had broken out is still unclear as there are so many rumors circulating regarding the cause. Detectives were interviewing witnesses and the Forensic Department was on the scene collecting evidence. There were many persons including many children that were present during this very unfortunate incident. Luckily no other persons were injured during this very irresponsible behavior of the persons involved in this case.
