Work for replacing the old drinking water and sewer pipes in downtown Marigot will begin on Sunday July 31.

The Water and sanitation establishment of Saint-Martin (EEASM) has launched a project for upgrading the drinking water and sewage pipes on rue de la Liberté, rue Kennedy and rue du Palais de Justice in Marigot. This work, which will begin on Sunday July 31, will take place in 5 distinct phases over a 4-month period.

The 1st phase concerns rue du Palace of Justice, from the rue du General De Gaulle intersection up to the rue de la Liberté intersection. The work will begin on Sunday July 31 and is scheduled to be completed on August 6, 2016. It will be carried out night and day in 3 8-hour shifts. Rue du Palace of Justice will be closed to traffic for the duration of the work. There will be a detour by taking rue de l’Anguille and rue de la Mairie. Signs will be set up on the concerned roads to guide motorists.

The 2nd phase of work concerns rue de la Liberté, from the rue Félix Eboué intersection to the rue de l’Anguille intersection. The work will be done in 4 weeks (7 am - 3 pm). The street will be closed to traffic. There will be a detour on boulevard de France.

The 3rd phase of work will concern rue Kennedy. Traffic will run one way from downtown to Low-Town. This work will last three weeks.

The 4th phase of work concerns rue de la Liberté, from the rue de l’Anguille intersection to the rue Kennedy intersection. The work will be carried out over a three-week period. That part of the street will be closed to traffic.

The 5th phase of work concerns the part of rue de la Liberté located between the Office of Tourism roundabout and the rue Kennedy intersection and the part located between the intersection of rue Félix Eboué and rue de la République. These two phases will be carried out simultaneously.

The work between the rue Kennedy  intersection and the Office of Tourism roundabout will last 4 weeks. One-way traffic may be possible according to the progression of the work. There will be a detour on Boulevard de France.

The installation of pipes on the part of rue de la Liberté located between the intersection of rue Félix Eboué and rue de la République will take place over a 3-week period.

The purpose of this large-scale project is to replace the worn-out drinking water and sewage pipes. During the work phases, rue de la Liberté will be closed to traffic. The street will be open to pedestrians and their access will be signposted. A precise signage will be set up downtown to guide motorists to the detour routes.

Business deliveries on rue de la Liberté will have to be done on foot from boulevard de France. Carriers are asked to comply with the established delivery hours between 4 pm and 6 am.
